Success Story: Josie Colonna, 2011 SkillsUSA Scholarship
The mikeroweWORKS Foundation, along with Lee Jeans, was honored to have helped defray travel expenses for 20 SkillsUSA competitors so they could attend the 2011 National Competition in Kansas City. Each of them had already proven their ability to be the best in their skill by winning gold medals in their individual state competitions. You are all winners!
We especially want to acknowledge and congratulate recipients who went on to win national medals at this year’s competition:
Leadership Development – Employment Application Process – The purpose of the Employment Application Process Demonstration Process is to evaluate a contestant’s readiness for applying for employment in their occupational areas and understanding the process and procedures required.
The contestant will be allowed 30 minutes to complete the application at the contest time. The scope of the contest includes the preparation and submission of resume, portfolio and in depth interview with judges.

Occupationally-Related Contests – Tech Prep Showcase – Recognizes outstanding Tech Prep students for their ability to present, through the design and construction of a display, the application of skills and education brought about through Tech Prep career training.
Students perform a professional team presentation applying the appropriate technology associated with the Tech Prep program. A team consisting of three students enrolled in the same recognized Tech Prep program must present the project.
Tech Prep – Arts, Audio Visual and Communications
Terri Haupt, Seminole Vocational Education Center in Florida won a SILVER medal (along with team members Erica Leggett and Angela Yang).
Tech Prep – Agricultural, Food & Natural Resources
Scott Eckensberger, Seminole Vocational Education Center in Florida won a BRONZE medal in Agricultural Food and Natural Resources (along with team members Jeffrey Brooker and Andrew P. Aptea).
