Subject: Thank You Letter for Mr. Rowe from Scholarship Winner

Dear MikeRowe Works,

Skills USA 2012 Ashton Johns edited for PDMy name is Ashton Johns from Florida and I just wanted to take a moment to tell you all how much your foundation has forever changed my life.

Almost two years ago I began the journey of a lifetime by joining an organization called SkillsUSA and at the time I had no idea what Skills even was, all I knew was my friends were doing it so it must be cool. I signed up for a contest I knew nothing about and worked hard with my instructor at the time until I was good enough to go on to take 1st place at the regional and 2nd place at the state conference as a freshman in high school. This year I was fortunate enough to be invited back as a state competitor where I placed first in the Food and Beverage category, but due to lack of funds we thought my dream would die there.

At Forest High School we do SkillsUSA a little differently, we don’t make Skills mandatory and we don’t charge to be in our chapter. All of the expenses we try to fundraise off any way we can, but fundraising $2,800 for my advisor and I to attend nationals in a matter of three short weeks isn’t easy. Teachers donated, friends donated, even strangers donated but with the economy the way it is here in Ocala we were still coming up short every way we turned but that’s when we heard about the scholarship.

Mr. Rowe and partners, it was because of you that I got to go and experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. It was because of you that I got to meet new friends, make new business relationships, got to network with other bright minds, but most importantly it is because of you that our chapter will be better than ever next year. It will be better than ever because I get to take home this gift of knowledge and gift of experience to share with not only my fellow SkillsUSA members and classmates but with the world. Lastly, it is because of you that my dreams came true as I took 6th place in the nation as a sophomore in high school. There will never be enough words to fully express my gratitude for all you have done to help me succeed in my life, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Best Wishes,

Ashton Johns
